Operation Pawan . Defence wing

On 11 October 1987, the Indian Peace Keeping Force started Operation Pawan to liberate Jafana from the occupation of LTTE in Sri Lanka.

On 29 July 1987, a peace agreement was signed between India and Sri Lanka in which the then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi and the then President of Sri Lanka JR Jayawardene signed.

The civil war had been going on in Sri Lanka for a long time, so this agreement was reached to end the civil war.

Sri Lanka in the south of India . Maybe a few years ago, during that time, domestic terrorist organizations had set their feet there and the fire of violence had spread all over Sri Lanka.

The matter had probably come out of Sri Lanka, so the Sri Lankan government had requested for help from India.

The day of 11 October 1987 was when this operation was carried out.

The Indian Army carried out this operation with a very wise skillful strategy but it also caused a lot of damage to the Indian Army.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam was a major extremist organization at that time in Sri Lanka.

On 11 October 1987, Liberation Tiger Tamil Eelam was going to meet terrorists, Indian intelligence agencies got information.

At the end of this meeting, terrorists were to be killed, thus Operation Pawan was designed.

Intelligence agency received its input. The Indian Army has prepared 120 commandos. These commandos were able to go to any country and fight in difficult conditions.

As a backup along with the commandos, 60 soldiers of Sikh Light Infantry were also sent to Sri Lanka.

It is believed that the only mission of the Indian Army was done in such a short time with such speed.

It is believed that the commander of the Liberation Tigers Tamil Eelam had already come to know about this entire operation, the LTTE combatants had captured the radio signals of the Indian and Sri Lankan army, which led to the operation.

By recording the intelligence signal, he had made complete preparations for a counter-attack or not, now preparations were being made from both sides, the only difference was that the Indian Army did not know that the LTTE terrorists would be attacked.

As part of its strategy, the Indian Army has fielded a team of 40 para commandos in the dark of night, when the commandos were taking their positions, then the already-ambushed liter fighters

Indian Army soldiers kept fighting bravely.

The fight between the Indian commandos and the LTTE lasted for several hours. In this mission, 6 para commandos of the Indian Army have been martyred, while more than 35 soldiers were martyred.

Operation Pawan proved to be the deadliest mission in the history of the Indian Army, despite this, the Indian soldiers deemed it more important to perform their duty while leaving duty, many soldiers were martyred while playing duty.

It is believed that after this mission, the Indian Army had broken the back of the LTTE and weakened them completly.

Stunned by the defeat, the terrorists killed Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.
