The British High Commission said in a tweet that the NSA discussed regional security and reiterated its commitment to transform defense and security cooperation as part of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his British counterpart Stephen Lovegrove on Thursday discussed the regional security situation and how to advance cooperation between the two sides in areas such as cyber security and the Indo-Pacific. People familiar with the matter said the India-UK roadmap focused on specific and substantial outcomes to take the partnership forward in line with the 2030 vision.
The key issues discussed in the meeting of the NSAs of the two countries included regional security, counter-insurgency and cyber security, maritime affairs and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. Taking forward the discussion between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Boris Johnson, the NSA also discussed furthering cooperation in the technology and defense sectors, with a focus on the key objectives of the Self-Reliant India initiative.
Roadmap was launched in May last year
Defense and security cooperation is one of the five sections of the India-UK Roadmap 2030, which was launched in May last year. The roadmap envisages India and the UK to work together to tackle cyber, space, crime and terrorist threats and develop a free, open and secure Indo-Pacific.
At the NSA meeting, the two sides agreed to help set global rules for cyber security and space, and to expand cooperation under the Defense and International Security Partnership (DISP) agreed in 2015. The two sides will also promote cooperation on critical national infrastructure and take concrete action against globally banned terrorists and terrorist entities.
