Afghanistan: bomb in Kabul shopping street kills eight people

The explosion happened in a western district where the minority Shia Muslim community regularly meet,

A massive explosion struck a shopping street in the crowded city of Kabul, Afghanistan's capital, killing eight people and injuring 22.

The blast took place in the Western District where people from the minority Shia community used to meet.

Video footage is coming out in which an ambulance is seen running with the injured.  A senior medical officer of a private hospital has said that 8 people have died and 22 people have been injured in this attack.

The Taliban ministry has said the attack will be investigated and has offered immediate help to the injured.

No militant group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which came ahead of Ashura, a commemoration of the martyrdom of Hussein, a grandson of the prophet Muhammad, which is marked mainly by Shia Muslims

On Friday, at least eight people were killed and 18 injured in a blast in Kabul carried out by Islamic State, a Sunni Muslim militant group.
